مک او‌اس (Mac OS) سیستم عامل رایانه‌های شرکت اپل است. این سیستم عامل که همراه با ارائه اولین مدل مکینتاش عرضه شد تا قبل از نسخه 7.6 با نام «نرم افزار سیستم» شناخته می‌شد و از نسخه 7.6 به بعد مک اواس نام گرفت.

همان طور که می دانید Mac OS فقط بر روی کامپیوترهای مکینتاش شرکت اپل نصب می شود ولی نسخه های جدید آن توسط برخی از گروه های کرک تغییراتی یافته است تا بتواند روی کامپیوترهای سازگار با IBM و در واقع کامپیوترهایی که از CPU های AMD و Intel‌ استفاده می کنند نصب و اجرا شود.

قدرت UNIX، سادگی Mac
Mac OS X دارای کاربردی ساده و قدرتی باور نکردنی می باشد. هر آنچه که در این سیستم عامل مشاهده می کنید و با آن سر و کار دارید، از صفحه دسکتاپ گرفته تا برنامه هایی که هر روزه با آنها سر و کار دارید، دارای طراحی ساده و ظریفی می باشند. کارهایی از طریق جستجو در اینترنت، بررسی ایمیل ها و گفتگوی ویدئویی را می توان به سادگی یادگرفت، به آسانی اجرا نمود و با جذابیت انجام داد. مکینتاش سیستم عاملی است که بر اساس هسته پرقدرت UNIX طراحی شده که سبب فراهم آوردن یک پایداری و ثبات بی نظیر گردیده است. عملکرد این سیستم عامل باورنکردنی و قدرت گرافیکی آن حیرت انگیز می باشد

ویژگیهای این سیستم عامل:

- قابلیت نصب بر روی کامپیوترهای دارای CPU‌های AMD و Intel

- گرافیک بسیار بالا و پنجره های بسیار زیبا

- دارا بودن نرم افزارهای مورد نیاز مانند پردازشگر متن و مرورگر اینترنت و Player مخصوص خود

- سرعت بالا در کار

- پایداری بالا و عدم هنگ کردن

- سازگار با سخت افزارهای معمول

نکات:

1- این نسخه توسط کاربران زیادی در اینترنت نصب شده است.

2- این سیستم عامل ظاهرا بر روی CPU های AMD نوع Phenom و Intel نوع Core 2 Due و Core 2 Quad نصب می شود و نصب آن روی سیستم های با CPUی قدیمی تر تضمین نمی شود.

3- ممکن است با برخی چیپست های مادربرد مشکلی داشته باشد که باید از پچ خصوص استفاده شود.
